With the information we have as we write, the best route for the climb is the so-called Route 0-4, shown in
red over the satellite image above. Starting point is Playa del Socorro. Other routes are possible and
we encourage you to investigate and document them to be shared. One known alternative is to start
at Playa de San Telmo.

                                                                                                              (Prepared by Pedro Jeronimo)

A detailed map follows:

                                                                                                                                   (Courtesy of Union Montañera Añaza)

The best description of the route to the moment is that of Union Montañera Añaza. A visit to
this page is well worth it. We translate a quotation from the original here:

" From Playa del Socorro we go uphill in the direction of the TF-5 motorway. Once crossed and
continuing the ascent through a dirt track that starts at km 41.8 of TF-5 we reach the neighborhood
of Tigaiga (290 m). Following Tigaiga street we reach La Cruz del Serradero, start point of the Vueltas
de Icod el Alto trail that leads to the road to Icod.

Taking this road 850 m to the north and being careful as the road has no shoulder, we reach a point a
little short of Mirador [ Lookout ] El Lance (549 m) .

Following any of the uphill roads and dirt tracks we are led to El mirador de La Corona (760 m) where
antennas are plentiful. From here on, follow the steepest tracks that do not separate from the sharp edge
of the valley until La Choza de Piedra de Los Pastores , 1600 m of altitude.

At this point two routes may be chosen. It is recommended to take the track going to La Choza de
Sventenius (that is the one to the right, in uphill direction). After the shelter house (choza) 300 meters
of asphalt are followed by a sharp turn were the dirt track starts again.  Continuing always uphill we reach

Las Cañadas near Roques del Peral inside the National Park. Follow track 1 until it reaches
track 6 . Take the later to Montaña Blanca. This route is a little longer but the tracks are easier to find
and negotiate, smoother slopes and less time consuming.

The alternative at La Choza de Piedra de Los Pastores is to continue on the Tigaiga valley edge. At 2050 m
of elevation the track  separates  from the valley in the direction of La Degollada del Cedro (2085 m).
From there an easy descent to La Cañada de los Guancheros, northeast of Roques del Peral. A small path
leads to Montaña Blanca, but it is very difficult to follow. Terrain is difficult to walk on and goes through
the restricted areas of the park ( Zona de Uso Restringido del Parque).

Both options end at the base of Mt Teide, on the hillside of Montaña Blanca, at 2534 m de altitude.
From here on, is the normal ascent route to the top.

together with some GPS coordinates and a topo profile. A miniaturized summary of the route in Spanish
can be downloaded here CHULETA.

The documents that follow are from our ascent and differ slightly from those above. More GPS points
are given. Distances of the topo profile below are on straight lines, smaller than true distances. Click on

Very important: To use GPS devices correctly the datum of the device must be that of the map or the points
used. Sizeable mistakes while positioning may happen if using wrong datum.
Of importance also is to let GPS follow satellites for 15 minutes prior to navigation. In this period satellites
give the device updates on their condition.
